The activities of the epidemiological department are aimed at:
 
1. Implementation of systematic epidemiological surveillance (serological and behavioural) and HIV prevention fieldwork among key populations. Assessment of HIV prevalence among people who inject drugs (PWID), sex workers, men who have sex with men (MSM). Establishing contacts with communities of risky behaviour;

2. Conduction of an epidemiological analysis of the incidence of HIV infection and evaluation of the efficiency of anti-epidemic measures in the region;

3. Conduction of an epidemiological investigations of all detected cases of HIV infection and management of events in the focus area, identifying exposed persons and monitoring their examination;

4. Data entry and analysis in the database of “Electronic tracking of cases of HIV infection”;

5. Monitoring of HIV screening of the population in accordance with the current orders;

6. Rendering the necessary methodological and practical assistance in the activities of Coordination Councils and arranging joint work with health authorities;

7. Rendering the organizational and methodological assistance to State Organizations, Departmental, Non-Governmental Organizations and Public Organizations in the implementation of preventive measures, as well as conducting the training for teachers, students, parents, volunteers and young adults on HIV prevention;

8. Implementation of programs to counteract the HIV epidemic in cooperation with state, international and public organizations;

9. Methodological guidelines for ensuring the quality of donated blood, tissue and organs;

10. Monitoring of HIV screening of recipients after blood transfusion;

11.Monitoring of HIV screening of persons affected by emergency situations;
